The aisles of Boots and Superdrug are currently brimming with fresh launches of beauty products for the upcoming warmer seasons. Matte formulas have undergone a glossy spring makeover, and the muted nail polish tones of winter have been cast aside for brighter shades that just scream of the summer. Throw a neutral eyeshadow palette into the mix along with a brush collection that just begs to be Instagrammed, and your budget beauty spring/summer lineup is completed. Now, which way to the beach?

If you suffer with oily skin and you struggle to pull of the dewy trend without looking shiny, the new L’Oreal Infallible 24H Matte Foundation (£8.99) might just be the one for you. Although matte textures tend to not be favourable when the weather heats up, this base keeps shine at bay while still giving the skin a glow – it isn’t really matte at all! The gel texture lasts all day long, so your skin can stay looking flawless through even the most humid of summer nights.

May will see the UK release of Maybelline’s The Nudes Palette. The eyeshadow set is rumoured to retail at under £10, and includes 12 shades in a mixture of matte and shimmer textures. This is all you need to create those smudgy festival smoky eyes.

Bourjois have given their Rouge Edition liquid lipsticks a spring/summer update in the form of the glossy Aqua Laque (£8.99) range. The product gives a juicy stained look to the lips, and comes in a variety of nude and bold shades.

Real Techniques have added a luxury edition to their make-up brush line up with the Bold Metals Collection (£10 and up). The elegant set of seven is designed for a more enjoyable make-up application experience, and the brush fibres are hand cut for perfect precision every time.

There are always an abundance of nail polish launches around this time of year, but Barry M’s Sunset Collection (£4.99) offers something a little different. This range has a special “Daylight Curing” formula which gives the shine of a gel manicure without the costly price or damage to the nail. The Way You Make Me Teal is a kind of shade that complements a tan perfectly, and is the perfect accessory to any beach babe outfit.

Time to dig around your make-up bag and swap out the old for the new, spring and summer are right around the corner.
