As we quickly approach December, there is one thing on our minds here at Fashion North: Christmas, and with that comes party season. The glitz, glam and sparkles have all been neatly packed away in our wardrobes waiting to burst out on December 1st and this year our style inspiration is grunge.
The fashion subculture grew in popularity in the 90s, influenced by Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain and model Kate Moss, who brought the trend to the forefront of fashion showing that edgy styles were made for everyone. This party season, adopt some of the grunge styles into your wardrobe, opting for a darker colour palette and cool-girl chic looks.
Fashion North has curated three ways to incorporate grunge into your Christmas season looks.
Winter Florals
Amanda Priestley from the movie The Devils Wear Prada once dismissed florals for spring and we know she wouldn’t be too pleased if she knew they were still thriving well into the winter months but we don’t have to be afraid of adding a pattern we all associated with summer trends.
Winter florals are an easy way to incorporate feminine styles but still remain grunge-inspired for your Christmas party look to take on the trend with a mini dress. This Topshop dress is fitted with a ruffled hemline and puff shoulders which is extremely flattering and the floral pattern is perfect for this season. It can be styled in so many ways, from a pair of heels or with a thick pair of tights, heeled boots, and a small mini black bag.

Cool girl Khaki
Green has been a massive colour this year thanks to Daniel Lee at Bottega Veneta who showed that a pop of colour is versatile and can work with any season. Opt for a muted shade of green with cool-girl khaki which is perfect for party season.
Incorporate the tone with a ruched longsleeved mini dress from New Look which can be styled together with black tights, knee-high black boots with a block heel, and finished off with an oversized leather blazer from Zara.

Double-leather lady
We often cringe at the thought of ever wearing double-denim. The fashion faux pas that goes against all of our style beliefs had led us to avoid wearing the combination, but there is something about double 0r even triple faux leather that seems more acceptable – at least with us here at Fashion North.
Take on a complete (faux) leather look with a pair of straight-leg trousers which can be styled with a khaki corset that has a flattering boned detailing and sweetheart neckline. To complete the leather takeover, add your oversized faux leather blazer – which is the perfect wardrobe staple all year round especially to drape over your shoulders as you head out the door for your Christmas party. Finish the outfit with a pair of heeled boots with a pointy toe detailing or a pair of block black heels.
