Ji Won Choi steps up in her debut at London Fashion Week 2019

The Adidas X Ji Won women’s ready-to-wear collection debuted in a presentation at London Fashion Week on February 16.

Sticking to the heritage of ‘Adidas Originals’ colour scheme, Ji Won designed a collection that strayed away from the traditional sportswear collection. This collaboration -consisting of 17 pieces – ranges from tracksuits to bodysuits, swimwear and accessories. Providing flexibility to their large following as these pieces are ideal for styling.

Each look consisted of the traditional Originals’ adicolour tones of black, lavender, oxford blue, scarlet red, pink and green, with the iconic three stripes taking over the design. Ji Won’s unique stripe concept was established in her thesis collection when she studied at Parsons School of Design.

The presentation took place in Camden, demonstrated on multi-coloured staircase structures that referenced the colour palette from the collection. The idea of movement within the collaboration appeared when the models moved in a continuous loop around the set.

This red tracksuit look seemed to be the most mainstream, streetwear look of the collection. The iconic scarlet red tracksuit has a relaxed fit with banded cuffs on the track pants and jacket, to add to the typical sports style. With the stand-up neckline and long balloon sleeves, it creates a more distinct look. Combinations of geometric patterns and colour blocking showcase the twist Ji Won has tailored into the collection.

Ji Won is a designer that prioritises versatility throughout her work, which is shown through the track jacket. The polo collar adds a sense of sophistication, whilst the long kimono sleeves bring a glimpse of her Korean culture and background. Also, the addition of straps trailing from the sleeves enhances her collection from sportswear to streetwear.

On Instagram, the #adidasOriginalsbyJiWonChoi hashtag has caught the attention of many people. Supermodel Kendall Jenner posted twice just a few days before the presentation wearing the lavender, loose fitted track pants from the collection.
