LFW AW17: Temperley London

Class, sophistication and a touch of the swinging sixties were showcased at the Temperley AW17 catwalk show, Painted Dreams.

“With rich fabrications and playful twists, the AW17 collection delves into the subconscious – complete with insects, lips, eyeballs and all that is bizarre and beautiful.” – Alice Temperley.

The AW17 collection at LFW last weekend showed elegance portrayed by the models on the runway. Bringing back a hint of the 1960s, the various necklines including roll-neck and plunge were a main focus point in this collection. They were teamed with a-line, ankle-length skirts and three quarter culottes giving off a sophisticated image. A selection of beautiful and elegant-looking fabrics were utilised including satin and chiffon. Many of the designs portrayed class and wealth shown by the sheer wide-legged trousers and puffed sleeves. The pastel shades of blush pink and powder blue graced the catwalk with the odd glimpse of black and cerise pink.

Alice Temperley is known in the industry for her modern bohemianism and effortless designs. She creates a range of daywear and eveningwear shown by her four ready-to-wear collections each year.

Outfits were layered with floor-length coats and boxed shoulder jackets. The W17 collection combined a traditional Victorian elegance with a Japanese-looking twist. The models are shown wearing mid to floor-length dresses and skirts, embroidered with such intricate detail, in rich tones’ of gold and silver.

Lace trim, sequins and beads were scattered among Temperley’s designs. With such embellishment and the recurring use of the tied bow, it almost gave a sense of innocence and class to the catwalk. The double staircase and dimly lit runway allowed us to create a mysterious impression, backed up by the simple yet dim-sounding music by Mimi Xu in the background.

As for women’s fashion: the clinched in waistlines, floral prints, strapless garments and sheer designs showed the femininity of the Painted Dreams collection. With the minimalistic makeup look, by Maybelline, each design had to speak for itself, leaving all eyes and attention on the abstract garments.

I think the W17 Painted Dreams collection was a huge success as it offered a variety of memorable garments. All the pieces were high-class and chic and I believe she designed this collection extremely well.
