As audiences were transported through the use of his art deco set, Erdem proved that time is no limitation when it comes to fashion. From frills to frays the fall collection undoubtedly gave a nod to 1940s fashion with a subtle twist.
Similar to his Fall 2015 collection Erdem, with the help of set designer Robin Brown, used pieces such as mangled chandeliers, stone pillars, plush couches and curtains to recreate a timeless fashion era in the ex-Selfridges hotel. The homely interior also helped bring the collection closer to home (if your home looks like an abandoned mansion from the silver screen in the 1920s). Also, taking inspiration from artist John Singer Sargent’s portraits, the collection almost felt like a family affair through his scarily similar models.
The collection of mature, mostly floral, evening wear oozed romanticism and femininity through its use of plunging v-cuts and flowing silhouettes highlighted using a variety of deep coloured ribbons. There was a heavy combination of lace and embroidery during the show that gave the clothes a couture-esque feel.
Although Erdem showcased a lot of floor length gown numbers we already know and love, there was one norm-breaker dress that stole the show and got everyone talking; that is THE gold dress. The long fringing seemed to dance and sparkle around the model as she graced our eyes with the dress of dreams.
A faithful fan to the collection, Alexa Chung was spotted in the frow with pal Daisy Lowe who took to her Instagram to claim she was ‘moved’ by the collection.
Alexa was wearing an A-line lace dress with a black trim which accentuated her slim figure and mirrored the collection Erdem showed. However, the star also showed her support for her own collection with Marks and Spencer by covering up her dress with a khaki green trench coat complete with shiny black buttons.
Whether it’s his beautiful combination of floral, velvet, lace and fringes, his look-a-like models or his incredible set pieces, Erdem’s Fall 2016 showcase left everyone talking and for all the right reasons and proved yet again that ultra-feminine fashion is timeless.
