Massimo Nicosia served up a beautiful dose of smartened traditional knitwear at Pringle of Scotland’s AW16 Menswear show this weekend, held at The Reform Club, London.
Monochromatic colours entwined with orange wool opened the show at Pringle; jumpers, knits and coats, combined tartan, crochet and houndstooth patterns alike. The focus this season was clearly outerwear with several parkas, blazers and sleeveless lambswool jackets, layered over cosy knits with the intention to keep the wearer warm, yet stylish.
Each piece was individual with a simplistic, yet effective dark pattern across the chest. One jumper was edged with an eye-catching orange hem which brought a new life to the brand’s classic knitwear.

The sweaters featured were mostly round neck, styled with heavy black and white scarves, wrapped around the neck and thrown over the shoulder. Others were V neck worn over white or grey turtle neck shirts which suggested a more laid-back approach to their usual pieces.
The brand experimented with the new sleeve length trend – extra long, hanging out from under their jackets, which seemed to be taken well by the audience as they were loudly applauded at the end of the show.
The models wore 3/4 length tapered trousers, finishing just above the ankle to meet their shiny black boots – a Dr.Martens meets London chelsea boots if you will.
Overall, it was a very strong collection from Pringle with some collaboration from Nick Wooster. It seems the brand is becoming much more refined year upon year – it’s amazing what Nicosia can do with Knitwear, I just can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next.
