London Collections: Men SS16 – Sibling

Sibling presented a collection that started leaving their audience thinking, “have I walked into the wrong show?” Opening with two classic tailored suits in deep royal blue and a cool steel grey, this was something new for the trio of serial knitters. The three-buttoned suits with lace details on the ankles gave little away for what was to come.

Pale lemon tones with olive green created into graphic hexagonal geometric prints on polo shirts, a cardigan with matching sweatpants, and a parka coat with a green hood and a not so traditional fringing, but oh so Sibling. The wool loving threesome also produced several female garments to coincide with the collections debut. Still in keeping with the opening geometric theme, this time into a one shoulder mini dress, ankle kissing white socks with suede purple and orange loafers by Robert Clergerie.

The almost preppy look continued with short-sleeved jumpers in pale blue with lemon edging and matching tie; which were teamed with jeans in an intricate swirl pattern. Chunky knit jumpers and cardigans in yellow and royal blue appeared next, the colours that so far dominated the collection were looser and more relaxed, ideal for summer nights on the beach or relaxing by a BBQ.

The mid-section of the show took on a different tone with varsity becoming apparent. Trousers worn by the male models were left undone exposing a suggestive jockstrap against the exposed male torso.

Boys and girls in blue represented the Sibling college sports team as giant S adorned a sequinned vest top in orange and dark blue, from here on in athletic attitudes stomped the stark runway with American college football attire this time in sequins.

The Sibling guys Sid and Joe both own a Bull Terrier called Mycroft, which was incorporated into hooded tops, jumpers and a collared jumper dress with vibrant orange and turquoise piping on the sleeve and down the centre. This evidently is the sports team’s mascot.

The sports cages used for American Football made an appearance created in lace-up detail, carried through onto the tight fitting pants. Oh and I forgot to mention, the rear exposed the top of the buttocks, allowing for enough shock factor to change the dynamics in the show space. As they passed the audience smiles and cameras shot up quicker then Usain Bolt can run 100 metres.

As the buttocks familiarised themselves to the spotlights, sheer fabrics in orange and khaki appeared baring the male chests. An olive green number with alternate transparent and opaque stripes made into a top and pants (with bright orange jockstrap on top) left little to the imagination.

But when you thought Sibling couldn’t throw anymore half naked males to their audience they debuted a corseted piece with orange jock strap, and super short shorts in dark green. The closing number was a pair of tight fitting pants with padded knees, and a hood with extreme yellow fringing covering the models face.

Sibling’s spring summer 2016, took them on what was initially a new direction. But the old characteristics of Sibling are still there with clever playful knitwear, and now tailoring added to their illustrious repertoire.

Their athletic collection was somewhat of a joy to witness and if this what a Sibling sports team looks like, then sign me up for a home run for spring summer 2016. Game on Sibling, game on.
