Met Gala: A look at the best dressed stars in 2024 ahead of the 2025 Met Gala

The Met Gala is one of, if not the most prestigious fashion event of the year, stars from all over the world gather to celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, marking the opening of its annual fashion exhibition. The 2024 Met Gala theme was ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ and the exhibit focused on pieces that were too fragile to be worn again, this led to an array of stunning ensembles that graced the carpet. The 2025 theme is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ and it is the first theme to focus exclusively on menswear since the 2003 theme ‘Men in Skirts’, it will centre around the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism.

Here at Fashion North, we’re taking a look at the best dressed stars to walk the met steps at the 2024 Met Gala, ahead of the upcoming 2025 Met Gala set to take place this Monday, May 5th.

Zendaya

It’s almost impossible to discuss the Met Gala and not include Zendaya. The fashion icon was one of the co-hosts of the evening and stunned in not one, but two outfits while gracing the carpet. Styled by her loyal creative partner, Law Roach, both ensembles were designed by John Galliano, the first outfit (pictured below) comes from his work for Maison Margiela.

The second look Zendaya appeared in was this look (pictured below) from one of the two collections John Galliano designed for Givenchy. This was a never-worn vintage Givenchy couture gown from its spring/summer 1996 collection and marked Zendaya’s triumphant return to the Met Gala since her iconic Cinderella look in 2019, from Vogue

This beautiful corset dress had a team of more than 70 people to make, as it was beaded entirely by hand, it also has a voluminous skirt that had a team of 40 people and took over 8500 hours to embroider, from Vogue. Making a triumphant return to the Met Gala for the first time since 2018, Lana Del Rey did so with style. Colman Domingo

Colman Domingo is certainly becoming a prominent figure in the fashion industry thanks to his impressive menswear looks and the 2024 Met Gala was no exception. He wore a double breasted suit combined with a cape around the back and a large black flower embellishment, he also arrived carrying a bouquet of white lilies from GQ. Tyla

Also making their Met Gala debut in style, Tyla made a statement when she arrived in a dress made up of sand in a nod to the sands of time. This look was brought to life by Balmain and Tyla was carried up the Met steps due to the restrictive nature of the dress, only further highlighting her commitment to fashion. She was then handed the Balmain hourglass clutch to carry, just a further addition that nods to the theme, from Vogue.
