Stars of TV including Love Island’s Maura Higgins and Dancing on Ice judge John Barrowman walked the red carpet in London this week, introducing us to some trends which we loved (and some we frankly hated).
The stars’ themes for the night included faux snake skin, sheer fabric and feathers.
Here’s Fashion North’s verdict on the best (and worst) on show.
Hit: Maura Higgins
Maura walked down the carpet with fellow Love Island star and partner Curtis Pritchard on her arm. Never mind the arm candy, take a look at the sleek, Jenner-inspired garment which just happened to leave very little to the imagination thanks to the scandalous sheer fabric, encrusted with lilac diamonds. The almost naked piece was also made of lilac feathers on the sleeve. Very daring and cheeky, but it seems a lot of inspiration was taken from the Kardashian clan and the American catwalks for the Ray Woolridge styled gown. Maura’s dress left almost nothing to the imagination but it seemed like many other stars who walked got the memo of sheer and a feather look. A look full of sex appeal gets Maura a 4/5.
Hit: John Barrowman
John is known for his all-round talents and quirky American personality. True to form, he took a starkly contrasting approach to the red carpet as he was seen modelling a flamboyant, wet looking snake skin suit that just so happened to contribute to the sex appeal of his silver fox hairdo.
Nashy Woo, his overall stylist, knows him very well!
However, to tone down his quirky style, he paired his urban jungle look with a pair of glossy black, silver studded shoes which pulled his eccentric style together and formed the perfect carpet combo. A very playful look for a playful character and bringing animalistic style back in to this cold season. If this was a rating from bronze, silver or gold; he’d be silver! 4/5!
Hit: Ashley James
The presenter and DJ showed up on the carpet keeping up with the mayhem of the mesh material trend thanks to her Aoifeo O’Doherty dress.
She opted for a slightly more approachable look as she is seen styling a loose and layered dress with a fitted and busty sweetheart neckline in the most beautiful blush pink palette. With the style and tones of James’ garment, she was sporting a cute feminine look. Very fashionable for a founder of a fashion company.
If it was pink to make the boys blush, they won’t be able to stop!
A rating of 3.5/5!
MISS OF THE NATIONAL TV AWARDS 2020…
Holly Willoughby
The British fashion Icon and This Morning presenter was seen carrying the very disappointing weight of a dress styled by Peter Lagner. The eyesore of a gown looked like a Cinderella car crash. The silk material mixed with the mesh and created a very uncomfortable prom like of a dress for the icon and was disappointing compared to her past looks on the carpet. If anything, the dress was more attractive from the back to distract from the awkward V line cut of fabric. Highly doubt this mix of fabrics and pastels will be snapped up by any other future trends.
Unfortunately, a rating of this car wreck fairy tale dress has to be 1/5.
Better luck next year, Holly!
