Our guide to Christmas nails

Nails1

Christmas is fast approaching which can only mean one thing – it’s party season. The time we put our glad-rags on and try and get to as many Christmas parties as possible. But let’s face it, nothing tops off an amazing party outfit like sparkly nail varnish. We’ve been experimenting with different brands on the high street to find the best nail varnishes to polish up your look.

Be a Dasher with Barry M’s Ruby Slipper nail varnish

BarryM1

Nothing says Christmas like traditional red nails.

This is one of our favourite red shades, the hint of glitter makes it that little bit more Christmasy. It’s ideal for this time of year and would really pop alongside some good old fashioned red lipstick. To make this varnish really wow, I would suggest adding a clear top coat, as this emphasises the glittery goodness.

The colour goes on easily, and only needs one coat.  Available at: Superdrug, £2.99

Be a Dancer with Nail Effects – Dancing Shoes No.7

No.7

For all you party animals out there try No.7 Nail Effects in Dancing Shoes.

This beautiful top coat gives nails a rainbow style shimmer. One coat is all you need to turn black nails into a dazzling statement. Be warned the nail varnish takes a little while to dry, so don’t paint them last minute. But match this with a LBD and your Christmas outfit is complete. Available at Boots, £7.00

Be a Prancer with NYC’s New York Colour in a Minute

NYC

Perfect for busy, night life girls who don’t have time to wait around for paint to dry.

It does what it says on the label, the great thing about this nail varnish is by the time you’ve finished your second hand your first hand will be dry. Two coats are needed, it makes the colour more vibrant. The only flaw is the aftermath, getting this nail varnish off takes a little bit of elbow grease and plenty on nail varnish remover. Also, we would would highly recommend a base coat for this nail varnish as it can leave a slight tint of colour on your nails. Available at Superdrug, £1.79

Be a Vixen with Diorific Vernis

Dior2

If you want the more sophisticated look, the limited-edition shades of Diorific Vernis are a good place to start. There’s a choice of Shock (ruby red), Gold Equinoxe, Mirror (Christmas white) and Smoky (deep plum).

The wide brush Dior use on all their varnishes make the varnish easy to apply, which resulted in a flawless finish. The paint goes on smoothly and two coats does the trick. It’s fast drying so the dreaded nail smudge is avoided. Phew! Plus, all of the shades come in the most adorable, vintage bottle. Available at Debenhams, £20
