Three seasons into his artistic director role at Louis Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquière is beginning to find his feet and come into his own with his fresh and exciting take on Louis Vuitton.
In a custom-built dome, created specifically for the AW 15 show, the immediate feel was expensive and luxury.
The show had a particular rock n roll feel to it. Where Saint Laurent has its ideal rock chick look Louis Vuitton has also adopted this image for this collection with its slim cropped pants, lace slip dresses and Mary Janes. The colour palette was particularly muted with its blacks and whites and only the odd pop of colour to break up the monochrome.
The show opened with a huge magnolia fur coat, worn with bare legs and ankle boots, this set the scene for the rest of the show; there was a huge focus on slim ribbed jumpers layered over skirts with a chain belt with silver medallions hanging around the waist – this is sure to be a new trend for the new season. The ribbed jumpers either had its edges curling up at the hem or had a peekaboo cut out on the décolletage for added effect.
A slim line silhouette was the look Ghesquière was clearly going for, with the cigarette pants and jumpers, as well as leather mini skirts with slits and cropped slimline leather jackets. Lace slip dresses in jet black and baby blue were also present to create a streamlined figure on the models. The signature Damier Louis Vuitton check also held a certain modernity in the show and was printed on jackets and skirts in shades of blush styled with a monogrammed T-shirt of the brands name.
Vanity case bags were certainly a strong point of the show and will surely have a waiting list for them in the upcoming weeks; a modern take on the traditional LV bags, the vanity cases came in many different sizes and well as shades and alternated the stickers that was plastered all over the exterior.
With more of Ghesquière coming through in each of his collections, his innovative designs and fresh take on French fashion will surely bring a new life to Vuitton and create a new Louis Vuitton woman.
