Despite the absence of the classic red carpet, the glitz and glamour of the Oscars was definitely made up for in the outfits this year.
Stars such as Kate Hudson, Fan Bingbing and Jessica Chastain all sported head to toe sequin adorned gowns as they made their way into The Dolby Theatre for the 95th Academy Awards ceremony.
Celebs wore designs from the likes of Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and Gucci which all included a similar element of sparkle. We’ve picked six of the best dazzling dresses from the “champagne” carpet this year:
Malala Yousafzai in Ralph Lauren
The executive producer of the Oscar nominated documentary Stranger at the Gate stunned everyone in her shimmering custom Ralph Lauren dress. Malala’s dress was the perfect example of how modest fashion can also be fun and beautiful. The look was accessorised with a pair of diamond earrings from the collection of Queen Soraya of Afghanistan, who was also a pioneer for women’s rights to education and healthcare.
Kate Hudson in custom Rodarte
The actress stepped onto the red carpet in another floor length sequin gown. The tulle element with the cold-shoulder ruffled sleeves added such a fun look for Kate (very Rodarte). The dress paired with those platform metallic heels and voluminous hair her outfit looks almost 70’s inspired.
Fan Bingbing in Tony Ward couture
The X-men actress made a rare appearance at the Academy Awards this year, and she did it in style. The slinky sequin dress looked incredible, but her emerald green outer-layer stole the show. The huge sleeves and train paired with champagne accessories and an old-Hollywood hairstyle just added an enchanting look to the carpet.
Jessica Chastain in Gucci
The Oscars co-presenter, Jessica Chastain, looked stunning in this sexy sequin gown. The black train and band detail on the neckline made the dress even more sophisticated. We’re glad to see the necklace make a return, especially this emerald and silver statement necklace from Gucci.
Nicole Kidman in custom Armani Privé
The Nine Perfect Strangers actress arrived at the carpet in a sultry black sequin gown which featured silver sparkly rosettes. She paired the look with some simple black heels and a whole lot of PDA with her husband Keith Urban as they posed affectionately for the cameras.
Elizabeth Olsen in Givenchy
The Olsen twins are known for their signature cool-girl style and this look from Elizabeth is no exception. The actress wore a sheer sparkly Givenchy gown with a plunge neckline and asymmetric train paired with classy Giuseppe Zanotti heels and a red lip to finish the look.
