Shot glass lip plumping: Is it worth the hype?

Kylie Jenner

Over the course of the last few weeks social media has been going slightly crazy over a new lip plumping technique that’s supposed to provide instantly noticeable results for those seeking an enhanced pout. Some have had more success than others with the method but the question is: is it worth the hype? And more importantly, are there any dangers?

We can all thank the Kardashians for this recent internet beauty craze as they’re constantly being talked about for their big glossy pouts (as well as their big bums). Particularly, stepsister of the Kardashians 17-year-old Kylie Jenner has sparked the majority of interest recently as her lips went from small and thin to full and plump.

Several online showbiz and beauty magazines and her fans, have speculated lip injections or surgery but the 17-year-old has stressed that she’s had neither. However, according to an interview with the youngest Jenner sibling, Kylie explained it takes her forty minutes to do her lips, now not everyone has forty minutes to spend perfecting their lip shape on a morning, so a lot of people are turning to the shot glass technique.

Twitter users particularly are attempting the challenge and sharing their results with fellow Tweeters using the hashtag #KylieJennerChallenge.

From doing this challenge a lot of people have experienced short-term results that can last for just a few hours or sometimes up to a day.

However even though this technique can be effective at providing enhanced lip results it is actually possible that it could cause premature wrinkles around the lip area. This can happen if the glass being used is covering the skin around the mouth as well as the lips. Ultimately this will wrinkle the skin and can cause early aging around this area.

Some who have attempted this challenge have also experienced bruising around their mouth because the suction was too strong and people with a fairer complexion are more likely prone to this.

Instead of succumbing to this bizarre beauty hype it’s definitely more worthwhile to take a step back a few years and buy a lip liner to draw slightly outside the natural line of your lips to get a more natural-looking and worthwhile effect. After all, it’s harmless and takes much less time. We recommend the Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in any of the four great shades available from Boots or Superdrug.
