Street style: the trendiest skirts of the spring in the streets of Newcastle!

Sunny weather hit Tyne and Wear like a spring miracle. Style icons such as Kate Moss, Carrie Bradshaw of SATC and Bella Hadid have given us major inspo for wearing skirts, and show our legs some sun (no more vitamin D deficiency!)

Local fashionistas have already switched out their closets for a lighter selection, unveiling a variety of the spring wardrobe staple. I took to the streets of Newcastle City Centre to find out which skirts are having a moment right now, and where local fashion killers get their inspo and garms!

Dreamy denim

Gracie looked laid back, yet effortlessly stylish whilst having matcha with a pal.

Her look focused on a bleach-washed detail denim mini skirt, which she paired with a soft, cashmere-like cardigan. The viral Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 trainers add a bright touch to the look, reflecting the warm spring vibe.

Downtown chic

Pharmacy student Paris took contemporary city chic to another level. Her pleated asymmetrical skirt gave the outfit an edge, and the stripes gave the skirt more dimension. The skirt was paired with a simple black crop top, ideal for a hot day out in the Toon!

Buckled slides are a great option for running errands or walking to lunch with friends, adding a downtown vibe to the overall look. Paris finds most of her wardrobe gems in TK Maxx, Vinted and charity shops.

Gingham glamour

Elle’s skirt was the first thing I noticed when I saw her. The colourful look consisted of a green gingham maxi skirt paired with a red denim jacket. The eccentric outfit was complemented with yellow-tinted sunglasses and intricate earrings- a mysterious charity shop find. For shoes, Elle chose comfy and versatile Dr. Martens sandals.

Elle is an avid Vinted user and constantly uses the platform to find unique pieces to add to her wardrobe or sell her pre-loved items.

Polka-dot craze

Hannah’s look was a sophisticated blend of chic and city comfort. The polka-dot midi-skirt was right on trend, with the print recently making a major comeback.

Pairing it with a black, minimalistic off-the-shoulder top and trainers made the overall look more casual for day-to-day activities in the city.

The twist in this fit was the creative genius DIY element on the skirt. Hannah achieved this effect with a bangle and a hair tie!

Hannah is also a loyal fan of Vinted and charity shops. Occasionally, she finds special pieces in high-street spots like Zara or Next.

A touch of boho

Layla’s look embodied the comfort and flow of spring. Boho is one of the biggest trends this year, and Layla reflected the style with a white maxi skirt matched with a white graphic tee.

Layla recognises the importance of enjoying fashion sustainably and prefers to shop second-hand. For her, the quality and number of uses an item can get are more important than trends.
