The Babywear Brand That Cares About Your Child’s Future: Little’n

As the first anniversary of its launch approaches, the babywear brand Little’n showcased its eco-friendly collection at Show Up North earlier this month.

Show Up North was a three-day event based in Newcastle this October organised by the sportswear brand Show Up Club. During the event, the Fashion North team had the opportunity to visit all the marketplace stalls and interview Little’n ‘s co-owner Fiona Milroy.

The Little’n clothing brand launched at the end of last year with the slogan: “No poppers. No faff.” Fiona explained that her aim was to “make parents’ lives easier” with the design.

Since she valued sustainability, her research led her to using GOTS-certified organic cotton as well as a knotted bottom design that allows babies to grow with the clothes for longer, reducing waste and saving customers’ money.

One of the main reasons why organic cotton is often preferred to other fabrics is the fact that it has not been treated with harsh chemicals including pesticides, fertilizers and harmful dyes that can irritate the skin and pollute local wildlife.

The Interview:

When did you start your baby clothing brand?

“We launched at the end of last year, so we’re coming up a year trading, but it has been in the works for the last two years.”

What made you decide to start the business?

“Well I’m a mam to three boys, and I’ve always been really creative and I was never 100% happy with the clothes that were available online. So roll on seven years (because my youngest was seven at the time), and I decided to leave my work in finance and open a babygrow brand.”

What makes your babygrows different to other brands?

“So we are sustainable. All of our range is made from 95% organic cotton. And we are a popper-free company, so you will never find a popper on any of the items that we produce so that it makes parent’s lives easier when they’re changing their babies, particularly at 3am!”

Where are your clothes produced?

“So they are designed here in the UK by myself, and then manufactured over in India with our partner who is ethical and sustainable. They use rain water to fuel their factories and solar panels so they’re really conscious of the environment.”
