Fashion North explores the current battle between gold and silver jewellery and who is winning.
At the start of 2023, silver was the leading choice of jewellery, with a Marie Claire article stating it is “…one of 2023’s biggest trends, both on runaway and off.”
Mick Maloney, founder of GoldSilver.com, also expected the cost of silver to rise during this year.
However, gold jewellery was a popular accessory during the recent 2024 Spring collections: Gucci’s looks featured chunky gold necklaces and hoops, and the models of Chanel’s ready-to-wear show wore dainty gold necklaces.
But, an employee at H.Samuel has said over the past few months they have seen more silver jewellery being sold, due to the current cost of gold. In the past week the price of gold, per gram has been £50.86 vs silver £0.603 (according to Gold.co.uk).
So, what should you wear? Traditionally, those with warmer skin tones are advised to wear gold, and those with cooler tones to opt for silver. However, stylists and jewellers suggest choosing what suits your own personal style.
