It’s cold outside, the Christmas shopping is done and the decorations are up which only means one thing; change into your cosy pyjamas, get a hot chocolate, open that box of Celebrations and watch one of these classic Christmas movies!
1. Home Alone:
This classic film is perfect for those family movie nights as it’s suitable for younger viewers and will bring back festive memories for the adults. When eight-year-old Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) is left home alone for Christmas while his family goes on holiday, he’s left to fend for himself and protect his home from burglars.
2. Elf:
In this 2003 Christmas classic Will Ferrell plays Buddy the Elf as he leaves the North Pole to find his real human father. He travels to New York, where he is ridiculed for his elf costume and christmas cheer, but ends up finding true love in the big apple.
3. The Holiday:
If you love light hearted rom-com’s this is the Christmas film is for you. Starring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black, the women are struggling with their love life and endure themselves in men problems, they find each others houses online and swap locations for the festive season, each finding love with a local guy.
4. The Polar Express:
A young boy embarks on a magical animated adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express. During his adventure he learns about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas.
5. How The Grinch Stole Christmas:
Jim Carey plays the Grinch as he is intent on stealing Christmas.
6. A Muppet’s Christmas Carol:
A muppet remake of Charles Dickens’ classic novel of a Victorian-era man taken on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions, with songs and humour from Kermit The Frog, Miss Piggy, and the rest of your favourite muppet characters.
7. The Nightmare Before Christmas
In Tim Burtons’ classic animated film, we follow Jack Skellington, King of Halloween Town, as he discovers Christmas Town, but doesn’t quite understand the concept of the festive period.
8. It’s a Wonderful Life:
This 1997 is a golden oldie classic. An angel helps a compassionate but despairingly frustrated businessman by showing what life would have been like if he never existed.
9. Love Actually:
A perfect christmas rom-com featuring a variety of actors, including Keira Knightly, Colin Firth and Liam Neeson, as you follow the characters mis-haps through the lead up to Christmas Day.
10. Jingle All The Way:
Arnold Schwarzenegger plays workaholic dad, Howard Langston, who wants to make things up to his son, Jamie (Jake Lloyd), and wife, Liz (Rita Wilson). He promises to get Jamie the hottest toy of the season, Turbo-Man, even though it’s Christmas Eve and the toy is practically sold out, so he takes it on himself to become Turbo Man.
