Winter can be really hard on your skin. The harsh weather combinations of cold winds, heavy rain and even snow mean’s our skin becomes extra dry and trust me, that is not a good look! I’ve tried and tested three moisturisers to see whether it is worth saving, spending or splurging for the best results!
SAVE – Garnier Moisture Match for Dry to Very Dry Skin.
This one is a definite bargain at only £3.99. But I often say you get what you pay for, and that was definitely the case with this product. My first impression was that it had a very strong, peachy scent which I really liked, but it was quite overpowering. When squeezing it out of the tube, the moisturiser was a very heavy, thick consistency that felt sticky on my hands.
When applied it wasn’t as sticky, but I did need to leave it to sink in for quite a while. While the product did completely eliminate my dry patches, it felt way too thick and almost as if my make-up was just sat on top of it. Overall, I found it to be a very heavy-duty moisturiser that ended up feeling like it clogged up my skin.
SPEND – Lush Celestial moisturiser.
First of all, this product smells AMAZING – but what else do you expect from LUSH? It smells almost milky, with hints of almond and vanilla. It is designed specifically for dry and sensitive skin, and mine is both. This worked absolute wonders!
While it feels light on your fingertips, it is really rich on the face, without being too heavy on the skin. It also didn’t give me any breakouts, which is always a good thing! The only fault is that it comes in the classic Lush little black tub, whereas I think moisturiser is better in a tube.
SPLURGE – YSL Instant Moisture Glow.
I was really intrigued by the idea of a serum/primer/moisturiser combination – normally I use all three products. This is a very, very lightweight gel formula, which sinks into your skin immediately. Instantly your skin feels hydrated. It’s moisturising properties are almost miraculous! I also found it did work as a good primer at first, as my make-up effortlessly glided on top of this.
However it didn’t last all day and was definitely looking worse for wear by the afternoon, and longevity is something I look for in a primer. It was great for parched skin, but I feel like I’d need to use a primer as well as this, and I just can’t justify the extremely high price tag.
Final Thoughts: Overall, my favourite was definitely the LUSH moisturiser. It sits comfortably in the middle of the price range so is good for everyone’s budget, and I think it could possibly be my new holy grail product!
