With the summer season fast approaching, it’s time to cast your shorts aside and make the revival of a classic seventies trend your go-to. From Urban Outfitters to Topshop, the flared trouser is one of the top bills of current high street fashion. We explored Newcastle City Centre and found our top three ways to make this street style wearable for you.
Rebecca, aged 20:
In terms of print and pattern, there’s nothing set-in-stone for what’s fashionable with flares in 2019. Going for bold? Take a timeless statement leopard print like Rebecca. Here, she makes the trouser the focal point of the outfit by contrasting the extremity of animal print with the simplicity of a fade-look black denim jacket. For further accessory, she also teams her flares with a matching print headscarf, which complements the striking print without going overboard.
Bethany, aged 19:
If bold isn’t your usual aesthetic of choice, then don’t force it. Here, student Bethany takes a more casual approach to the trend by colour-blocking a muted pair of black flares, a scarlet red crop top and statement white trainers. Taking her colour palette up a notch, she accessorises her outfit with a burgundy snake-print clutch and chunky golden hoops before adding all-black sun-shades for a final touch. Whoever said casual was boring was clearly a compulsive liar.
Alysha, aged 19:
Crediting her style inspiration to American model Sofia Richie, Alysha says her flares are “just the right amount of comfort and style”. She pairs a neutral set of blue-hued grey flares with an over-sized boyfriend tee, a combo that certainly radiates comfy- chic. With animal prints making a recurring appearance in clothes and accessories alike, Alysha stays on-trend with a leopard-spotted bucket bag. The oversized golden hoops add a finished flair to the look.
