As The Guardian revealed, The “Bottega effect” has been one of the year’s biggest fashion stories, with the brand’s woven leather sandals and handbags quickly becoming front-row catnip and fodder for high-street copies.

Their new British creative director Daniel Lee is up for three gongs – accessories designer of the year, British womenswear designer of the year and overall designer of the year – while the label has been nominated for brand of the year.  Ahead of the awards, Fashion North tells you everything you need to known about the man behind the magic and the history of the brand itself…

Bottega Veneta was founded in Italy in 1966 as a leather goods company by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro. Starting out as a specialised and handcrafted Italian brand, it has now skyrocketed to be become an iconic and premium luxury fashion house with global distribution. The atelier is best known for its signature Intrecciato woven leather, which is a technique still used by their artisan to make the leather in their products stronger and more durable.
