MAC Lipstick in Creme Cup v.s. Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick in Sweet Pink

Finding the best nude lipstick is like finding the perfect pair of shoes. The colour has to complement the skin, it needs to be comfortable and, there’s always that issue of buying tonnes of cheap alternatives or saving up for that one luxury product that will last forever.

My first nude love was found in MAC’s Creme Cup lipstick. This very pale baby pink hued nude is just a tad lighter than my natural lip colour and looks stunning for an every-day hint of colour or paired with a smoky-eye on a night out. The Cremesheen formula provides a slightly glossy, moisturising finish but packs a lot of pigment for an opaque application.

As with all MAC lipsticks, the smell of this product is sweetly intoxicating and the curvaceous black casing will attract everyone, whether you are a minimal or glamorous packaging lover. However those who refuse to splash out on cosmetics may be turned off by the expensive £15.50 price tag.

Budget beauty lovers rejoice, as the Maybelline Colorsensational lipstick in Sweet Pink is a very close shade match to Creme Cup. Available in Superdrug and Boots for a mere £6.99, the Maybelline offering is just as glossy and bold as the MAC lipstick but is slightly more blue-toned in shade, making the teeth look a little whiter.

The product smells a little more plastic-like than the MAC alternative, but is packaged well with a translucent pink casing and silver hardware. However, Sweet Pink leaves behind an awful gritty silver glitter on the lips that is very difficult to remove and doesn’t look appealing in the slightest.

Verdict: BLOWOUT. Sweet pink may be cheap as chips, but Creme Cup will never let me down.
