Throughout the never-ending era of Covid and the failure that was 2020, around 71% of couples cancelled and rescheduled their weddings due to restrictions. According to Hitched, almost 75% of engaged couples have chosen to reschedule their wedding until 2022 as many venues were unwilling to host for a large party, as well as the government’s restrictions on the number of guests you may have.
The year 2022 is quickly seeming to be the year of weddings. Every bride and groom wants this to be a picture-perfect day, and we believe we have found the most special way to make the smallest part of the day more personal.

Many places offer ‘Make your own wedding ring’ workshops, run by professionals with lots of experience. We spoke to Sally How, owner of How Fine Designs, who holds these workshops in and around Harrogate.

“People generally have an idea that they want to make something with meaning rather than just buy rings from a jewellers shop. So the process of making and the experience is part of the wedding preparation and very exciting.
“Clients usually contact me through my website where the wedding ring workshop process is explained. Then I find out more about their likes and dislikes. I usually get them to tell me what the date of their wedding is, whether they have a particular material in mind, or a style. We usually book a zoom call and I find out more about them.”

As Sally had to cancel all of her wedding ring workshops in 2020 due to Covid, she’s expecting a bigger demand once they are able to offer them again. Everyone wants to be involved in as many experiences as possible as soon as we’re free of the pandemic.
“Making your own wedding rings is so much more personal than getting off the shelf rings. Some of my customers prefer to leave file marks and slight imperfections because those have meanings. Making memories together, trusting each other to create their rings (most people do this, but they can choose) and creating wedding rings is one of the loveliest things a couple can do for each other.

“People can choose from a range of different metal styles including yellow gold, rose gold, white gold and various different carats, from 18 carat, to 14 carat or 9 carat. They can also choose from a variety of different shapes, or profiles, from traditional court, which is more oval, or halo which is round, or rectangular which is more contemporary.”
