After graduating in Fashion Journalism in 2015, Sian started her career in an environment she loved. As sewing has always been her passion and her forte (she even made her own prom dress), she was thrilled to get her first job in Essex as the editorial assistant for Sew Magazine, which she had always loved.
Although she considered herself to be a home bird and loved the North East, working away from home for Sew Magazine was a “great experience and was always considered as a dream to me.”
After falling pregnant in 2016, Sian decided she wanted to focus on her desire for sewing and design, therefore moved away from her magazine job and began to make plans to create her own business: Sew Sian.
Sian and her son; Archie
At the age of 24, Sian launched her business in May 2018. With help from her young son; Archie, she has thrived ever since. Sian said: “My son was my biggest inspiration to start my own business.”
As embroidery became more fashionable on the high street, former graduate Sian began to design childrenswear and matching mummy and child tops, which are cute and have become very popular recently. As her business progressed, Sian began to design home décor and mementos, which not only make great gifts but are ideal for new homeowners.
“My signature script design T-shirts are very popular for Christmas and Birthdays gifts. Many people like to buy personalised gifts as people love keepsakes.”
As Sian plans for the future, she hopes Sew Sian will grow and with the help of family and friends, she hopes one day to open up a shop or a café which sells her products.
“Everything I learned at university on the fashion journalism course was so transferable to my current job, it has helped me progress, as I am my own boss now.”
