Feeling hot hot hot – how to dress to beat the heat

The Summer sun has well and truly arrived in the North East and temperatures are climbing to a tropical-esque heat.

But, when you live in a place where the typical weather feel is wet and windy and the winter lasts for two-thirds of the year, it can be difficult to transition into this sudden burst of glorious sunshine when you’re so used to wearing dark denim and chunky knits 90 per cent of the time.

Don’t worry though, here at Fashion North we understand those struggles and have some suggestions to help you ‘beat the heat’ this Summer.

Wear natural fabrics: when it’s hot and humid outside the last thing you want is your clothes sticking to your body, making you even more hot and bothered than you already were. To avoid this, wear clothes made from natural material such as cotton, linen or silk. Like this shirt here.

H&M – £10

Go for wide leg trousers: If you’re not all for having your bare legs out, but also don’t really fancy melting in a thick pair of denim jeans, fear not, we have a solution! Invest in a pair of long-length wide leg trousers, they’ll be breezy enough to keep you cool (like a skirt) but long enough to be comfortable. They look good with a T-shirt and trainers for a casual daytime look but can also be dressed up with a lightweight blouse or cami top.

ASOS – £28

Midi dresses: the midi dress is the ultimate Summer day-to-night outfit. The loose fitting floaty style keeps you cool during the day, while the length and the ability to layer makes it easier to transition when the evening gets a little cooler.

Topshop – £46

Jumpsuits and Boilers: If you’re not into dresses but want something similar to what a midi dress provides, we’ve got you covered! Jumpsuits and boilers are the perfect alternatives to a dress — especially one with a wide leg. They offer a similar day-to-night transition with extra comfort.

New Look – £24.99
