LFW: Mary Katrantzou catwalk disrupted

Designer Mary Katranzou catwalk at LFW was disrupted by an anti-fur activist.

Activist from SURGE, an organisation interested in animal rights, stormed the stage filming and screaming: “Shame on you, Shame on you London Fashion Week!” It only lasted just a few seconds as the female protestor was quickly removed from the runaway by a security guard so the show could continue.

Mary Katranzou, a Greek fashion designer, used to make the clothes from real fur but in the her current AW18 collection, she used specifically faux fur for jackets and coats.

Katranzou’s show came just a day after an anti-fur protest outside the Burberry show, which ended up with Cara Delevingne walking down the runway wearing a faux fur rainbow cape.

London activists for animal rights PETA stood topless outside the Burberry show. On their upper bodies they had a sign ‘wear your own skin’. They believe, there is plenty of vegan fabric in a market so there is no need to use animal fur anymore.

The protest was the largest fur protest seen at the event in a decade.
