Babydoll dresses, velvet and lots of leather were the themes surrounding Paul Costelloe’s AW16 ready to wear collection at London Fashion Week. When asked what his inspiration was before the show he said that it all depends on how he feels at the time; a perfectly simple answer from someone who has been in the industry over 30 years.
Dublin born Paul Costelloe is one of the most established names in British Fashion and his latest presentation proves just why. Set in Le Meridien, Piccadilly London, his looks took over the catwalk bringing an element of power dressing however still being completely wearable for all types of woman.
Black and Charcoal grey are the main colours seen in this collection, with a burst of colour here and there to keep it interesting. Costelloe added a modern twist to the traditional Babydoll dress with a high neckline and leather and lace panelling.
Oversized jackets, a trend followed by many other designers in their AW16 collections including, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Tommy Hilfiger. Costelloe has used military style jackets in his latest collection in fiery red checks and also high neck jackets.
True to his style, Costelloe used the same material and pattern in more than one of his pieces but tailored it completely different to create a whole new look which he has been seen to do in many of his collections prior to this one.
Models graced the catwalk with an effortless hairstyle; half up, half down, and minimal makeup other than the bold black eyeliner which goes with the theme of powerful dressing.
The leather overload is perfect and has to be the most iconic part of this collection. From detailing on the dresses and coats to the gloves that accessorize the looks, it seems like this season more is more when it comes to leather. Not forgetting about the sheer material and velvet which perfectly complement this seasons collection.
Costelloe has got it right yet again with his aw16 looks, there is a perfect mix of colours, materials and tailoring which justify just why he is nicknamed the modern day “father of fashion”.
