London Collections: Men – Coach A/W 15

From lavish furs to plushly-lined leathers, Coach’s A/W 15 collection was awash with luxurious tailored pieces for the travelling man.

In a series of pieces that never strayed too far from Coach’s classically tailored aesthetic, fur jackets and wool overcoats in hunter greens, dusky khakis and opulent shades of burgundy, were paired with storm-grey baseball tees and trousers, and paraded exuberantly down the runway against a gritty countryside backdrop.

Creative director Stuart Vevers also added American classics to the collection, with aviator jackets and bomber coats reinvented and woven into burnished leathers – the label’s signature thread – and sheepskin lined with velvety-soft fur.

It was all very outdoors-inspired – ideal for the fashion-conscious traveller. An oversized fur-hooded overcoat splotched with varying shades of charcoal and Dartmouth green that was sent down the runway is a prime example – it would be splendid for lengthy train journeys. As would one of the numerous trench coats – in varying cuts of single and double breasted and crafted from luxurious wool.

In a way, it harks back to Vever’s A/W 14 women’s collection – the shaggy furs, the fur-lined aviators, the fuzzy sheepskin overcoats – and perhaps intends to show us how good the Coach boy and girl can look together.

But it wasn’t just Vever’s apparent love for outerwear that was featured. There were cable knit sweaters in varying, ever-agreeably neutral shades of navy and brushed khaki fur hats. And, of course, no outfit was complete without a bag. From the practical backpack to mini satchels to oversized holdalls, Coach showcased their signature product in an assortment of butter-soft leather, brushed canvas and textured croc.

In a nutshell, Coach is the cleverly balanced combination of stylish opulence and practicality, and their A/W 15 collection is no exception. So, if it’s tailored luxe and timeless essentials you’re after, look no further than Vever’s latest compilation.
