Marc Jacobs RTW fall collection 2019

Jacobs intimate show at Park Avenue Armory stuns at New York Fashion Week.

The 40 piece collection was unusually small compared to previous years where there have been 60 plus pieces. The collection itself was colourful, detailed and perfect for the everyday New Yorker. The collection included warp-print trapeze dresses, an austere schoolgirl sweater, skirts, coats and capes. The fabrics ranged from luxe cashmere and wools, airy organza petals, and sequined green plaid – each worn to make the most stunning garments.

The show was held at the Park Avenue Armory. The room was installed with a reflective black glass floor and the room was completely dark apart from one single spotlight as the models walked the length of the catwalk. The American Contemporary Music Ensemble played beautifully for the entirety of the show creating a strong atmosphere to reflect the mood of the collection.

Models such as Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Karlie Kloss graced the show. Hadid wore a stunning black gown featuring oversized cuffs paired with an animal print round handbag and lace-up black boots. This was one of the most wearable looks of the whole collection and by pairing it with an on-trend leopard print bag makes it an instant sell out once the collections hit the online stores.

However, it was the closing of the show that was the true stunner, Christy Turlington Burns stole the show by stepping foot onto the catwalk for the first time in 30 years. She stunned in a black feather cocktail dress with a matching fascinator and black leather boots. Saving the best outfit til last, Burns looked incredible. Nineteen ninety-three was the last time Christy Turlington Burns walked for Jacobs and as she approaches 50 she walks again closing this beautiful show.

The collection as a whole was innovative, strong and varied in its style and colours. Once again Jacobs delivers us designs we didn’t think we needed but now can’t live without this coming season.
