In the week when Miley Cyrus releases her new album Attention, Fashion North deconstructs her style over the the past 15 years
We all remember that sweet TV country star Hannah Montana from back in the day.
But we can’t accuse Miley Cyrus, 29, of not changing her look over the decades.
Her first album was in 2007 called Meet Miley Cyrus. She was still Hannah Montana during this release, so most of the songs were featured on the TV show. Miley was just a baby during this era, sporting her natural wavy brunette look.
Miley’s next album was Breakout in 2008. Miley was trying to find herself in terms of music and style. She started wearing brands such as Valentino and on stage she was becoming more herself. However, she was still keeping it very close to her roots with the cowboy boots and her bouncy curly hair.
Then the next stage of Miley’s fashion evolution is when she brought out Can’t be Tamed in 2010 just a year after the release of the Hannah Montana movie. Even though she brought out EPs before this she was finding more of her sound and was coming more out of the Disney star era. Her hair was a getting a lot lighter and her fashion was becoming a lot more mature with event wear and wearing heels. Even on stage she was maturing with textured hair and more dramatic outfits.
Then three years later Miley surprises the world with her new look and her album Bangerz. Her long brown locks had all been chopped off and around the sides had been shaved with her now having a bleach blonde quiff. This was a massive shock to everyone as she had always been this Disney star but she was growing up she needed to find herself. However, her fashion during this era just included not a lot of clothes, so in her Wrecking Ball music video she is iconically seen wearing no clothes. She always looked so glamorous such as this white suit Versace suit but wearing no top underneath yet it still looks so classy.
Then with all the publicity of Miley’s Bangerz era she didn’t release a music or an album in a few years but finally in 2015 she released “Miley and her dead petz”. Now this stage Miley’s fashion was tipping a bit with her previous success of her last album and she didn’t really know where she was going with her music. She still pushed fashion boundaries and looked iconic.
Then in 2017, she went back to her country roots with her music which meant her fashion went more back to what she was wearing in 2008, just more modern and she looked more confident in herself. She had outgrown her hair meaning her darker roots were in but still having her bleach blonde more towards the bottom. Her fashion was very country and western feel but still with glitz but it just gave a comforting vibe.
After the massive success she had in 2020 after performing Heart of Glass by Blondie she released her first Rock album called Plastic Hearts. Within Miley’s fashion and music it is clear she is at her peak and her fashion is very Debbie Harry inspired as her hair is a textured bleach blonde shaggy mullet. Her clothing is mainly black but still having the element of rhinestones to add extra glam. She wears a lot of leather too and knee high boots with dark deep eyeliner.
Now in 2022, Miley is performing more rock and it really shows through her clothes, with her shaggy cut now having black underneath she is really this generation’s Debbie Harry.
