Nail the luxe leisure trend for Spring/Summer 2017

LUXE LEISURE

We all love a lazy day once in a while, where you throw on some slouchy sweats and binge watch a boxset on Netflix. However, it often begs the question – wouldn’t you love to be able to take that comfort and cosiness into your everyday dressing in the outside world? Well the recent runway collections have shown this is now possible, you just need to follow some simple rules!

It all starts with a tracksuit, not the type you’re used to seeing kids wearing down the local park but expensive looking, grown up versions of the 80s and 90s classic. Think fabrics like velour and crushed velvet in flattering tones of nude, grey and black. While some people may love the idea of spending the day flouncing around from office meetings to cocktail hour in something they would usually only let their dog see, others may shudder at the thought. For those of us who aren’t so keen on ‘down dressing’, the luxe leisure look can still bring a high fashion edge to your wardrobe.

The likes of top models Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are already zooming in on the trend. Kendall recently wore a cream and crimson Chloe tracksuit straight off the runway showing how the look can transition from high fashion to hitting the streets. Gigi opted for a candyfloss pink three-piece lounge-set combining cropped joggers and a cropped sweatshirt with a longline jacket to balance out the silhouette.

To keep the look from descending into ‘chav’ territory, keep the accessories to a minimum. Think less is more. Under your tracksuit jacket try a bodysuit in a contrasting shade, bodysuits are also helpful to disguise any tummy issues and give a killer waistline. Rihanna’s fashion line Fenty x Puma saw the singer send her models down the runway wearing oversized tracksuit pants worn with super tight bodysuits or corset style bodices. Jewellery wise, minimalistic style pieces work best. Try simple chains in gold and a few stacked rings to complete the look.

Not all of us have been graced with supermodel long legs and for some, taking to the dance-floor in trainers – be it as amazing as it feels on our feet – is a big NO NO. But that’s another reason luxe leisure is right up there with our favourite current trends because we can mix and match out footwear to whatever we fancy. Tracksuits will look amazing whether they’re worn with Balenciaga Racerunners or a pair of strappy Tom Ford killer stilettos, both looks will have you turning heads as soon as you step out the door.

Luxe leisure is accessible to everyone and the market is full of pieces to help get the look. From ASOS Basics to Gucci’s embroidered garments, there is no reason not to throw on your best comfies and pound those pavements.
