Spring/Summer Trends: The Stripe Parade

Expect downpours of stripes, with a high chance of bright, bold colours and scatterings of metallics.

Spring/ Summer 2017 takes fashion back to the drawing board by re-defining the confident look with bold pinks and sunshine yellows, metallic effects and every width of stripe imaginable.

Stripe Parade.
So it’s time to dust off the summer body and fully embrace the warmer months.

Stripes never really go out of fashion and this season is no different, it’s all about combining and experimenting with moods, whether it’s preppy, sporty or elegant stripes. They’re all on trend and back, bigger and more colourful than ever. The trend is beginning to flood high street shops and online retailers, but for those with a bigger budget you won’t struggle to find the multicoloured trend with a designer label.

With hot designers like Gucci featuring stripes throughout their collections, from handbags to shoes to multicoloured knitwear, there is definitely plenty to choose from if your bank balance will allow it.

Stripes featured heavily on SS17 catwalks of the likes of Marc Jacobs, Chloé and Topshop Unique, so there are plenty of options for those with more to spend. However, all is not lost if you have a smaller budget, retailers like Asos, Topshop and New Look have got you covered. From striped two-piece trouser suits to bardot holiday dresses to exaggerated cuff shirts, there are stripes for everyone and any occasion.

If, like super models Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, head-to-toe stripes is your kind of thing then go casual with a thin striped, relaxed fit, two piece suit worn with clean white trainers for a office/ sport luxe vibe. Or if something a little more understated is more in your comfort zone then go for a banker stripe shirt, a striped multicoloured tee or a fun deck chair stripe dress.

Forget everything you have read about stripes not being flattering for all body shapes, this season there is a stripe out there for everyone. If you’re looking to achieve a lengthening effect to your legs then wear vertical striped trousers, or if you’re not as confident with your midsection then opt for diagonal striped pieces. This season they’re all in.

As metallics are starting to creep back into fashion after making an appearance over autumn/ winter, why not add metallic accessories to transition a casual striped day outfit into evening wear? Whether this is a mini bag, a pair of metallic shoes or shiny accessories they’re the perfect on trend accompaniment.

Statement stripes and bold and bright colours have well and truly taken over the fashion scene for spring and summer. So if you’re confident enough, then make a statement and embrace the head-to-toe stripe trend. However, if you aren’t quite ready to go all out then t-shirts, dresses and accessories are a great nod to the trend.
