SS20: Vintage Grunge Chic

With the end of the fashion week season, new trends are on the rise which are sure to make a bold statement with any look.

Spring/Summer fashion is all about standing out from the crowd and, with festival season around the corner, the Vintage Grunge scene is hotter than ever.

Designers such as Celine have taken this approach and used it in their SS20 collection, with garments being loosely fitted on models and denim being a key feature of the collection.

Vintage fashion is all about re-using what we already have, for example buying second-hand clothing and wearing it in a new and stylish way. Vintage clothing has always been about taking something and reworking it into your own wardrobe, with most vintage clothes being in a baggy fit.

Vintage Grunge sees people wearing monochrome colours in contrast with bright colours. Layering is also a key feature within the scene, as well as recycled fabrics and oversized tops and jumpers.

Celebrities have also pioneered this style, with Bella Hadid and Vanessa Hudgens going out wearing stand out pieces on the street and at the airport. With Hadid, wearing straight- leg, ripped mom jeans, a black vest top and a long utility denim jacket. She was also pictured with vintage sunglasses and a chained belt.

Hudgens expertly styled a cropped denim jacket with a white crop top and emerald striped, baggy paper-bag trousers.

The Vintage Grunge scene also embraces a sense of sustainability, with people using apps like Depop to get the best vintage pieces and accessories.

It is very easy and accessible to jump into the Vintage Grunge scene and can be done affordably too. With shops such as Urban Outfitters and Topshop offering the best statement pieces to use as layering or to be worn alone.

If you want to jump on this hot new trend this Spring/Summer, Topshop have a number of clothes that can help you stand out from the crowd, such as this yellow ditsy tea dress (£35)- currently on sale for £32!

The dress can be paired with some faux leather chelsea boots from H&M (£24.99) and a cropped denim jacket from Topshop (£39)- currently on sale for £35!

If the Vintage Grunge scene continues to rise, then we will most likely see the rise in sustainable fashion too,
More and more of us become obsessed with buying second-hand clothes, and they can often make you wonder if there’s a story behind them…
