The fashion-forward faces of Sunderland

Face masks have become an essential factor in our daily outfits. Now, it’s time to ditch the disposables and showcase our own style and personality, while still keeping ourselves and others safe.

Fashion North took to Sunderland’s city centre to seek out the most fashionable, unique masks and to have a chat to those wearing them.

Holly, 26, purchased her mask from Instagram account @velvet_jones_bespoke, who sell a variety of masks in different styles among many other products.  Holly chose this particular design as she is a huge fan of floral print.  She also said “the mask ties around the back of the head, rather than to the ears, which is more comfortable for me”.

Jack, 23, wears a lot of dark colours, so he chose this dark blue patterned mask from online fast fashion retailer SHEIN to match his everyday style.  He said: “I have a few masks at home, but they are plain black.  I bought this one as I liked the muted tie-dye pattern and the dark colours matches my clothes”.

Sharon, 47, bought hers mostly for the air filter function of the mask, so that when she wears her glasses with it, they will not steam up. She said: “The leopard print style was an added bonus, I liked it”. She purchased it from the Xtras stall in The Bridges.

Patterns aren’t always to everyone’s taste however, as Rebekah, 21, prefers a simple plain coloured mask. She said: “It’s easy to match it with what I’m wearing, and this shade of blue is my favourite colour!”. Rebekah’s mask was bought from a market stall in Carlisle.

Mother and daughter, Jennifer, 43, and Shaunie, 24, both donned interesting but different masks. Jennifer’s mask is from Amazon and is Harry Potter themed. She said: “I’m a big Harry Potter fan, we both are! That’s the main reason why I bought it”.  Shaunie, purchased hers from Xtras in The Bridges because it was colourful and cheerful! She said: “I also love the tie-dye trend”.
