The who, what, and why of Alexa Chung’s LFW 2019 collection

London fashion week is just one of the many fashion events that is infamous for bringing together designers from all around the world to showcase their newest collection but 2019’s fashion week has shown that this is the year of Alexa Chung.

Model turned designer Alexa Chung has seen wild success within the fashion industry since launching her fashion brand in May 2017. Her collection for 2019’s fashion week brought us all what we need for the modern day strong and resilient woman. Not only was this collection important for her fashion brand, but it also gave us a glimpse into her new sunglasses collection in collaboration with Sunglass Hut. This new collection consists of vintage-style frames and tinted shades as seen on some of the models.

This collection is Chung’s imagination of the ‘off-grid woman somewhere in California’ and aimed for this collection to tarnish her ‘quirky’ stereotype. London Fashion Week is the first showcase of this collection and had the likes of Nick Grimshaw, Pixie Geldof, George Barnett and others showing up to be part of the f-row.

The scene of the catwalk was set in a dark styled garden with bushes and bristles surrounding the walkway. Each of Chung’s models wore a brown smokey eye and what looks like an ‘effortless’ loose hairstyle.

One of the many eye-catching looks was the double denim ensemble. This outfit consists of a denim, puffed sleeve shirt dress with front zip detail. Worn with a pair of bootcut denim jeans and detailed with a cow print belt and black turtleneck underlay. This outfit is a perfect representation of Chung’s ‘hipster anti-quirk’.

This second outfit is a perfect way to combine the modern day ‘Clueless’ attire with the working woman of the 80s. The yellow and grey madras plaid skirt and jacket co-ordinate gives all to vibes of a working woman with flare. Styled with a white shirt, tights and a pair of wedge strap heels.

This black mesh maxi dress combines all the fashion of mesh and the elegance of a maxi. This dress is accompanied by sequin daisy embellishments and worn with an emerald green velvet trench coat. The outfit gives the look of the high street with the signature ‘girly’ style of Alexa Chung. Worn with the same wedged heels as the previous outfit which seem to be the showstopper of this runway.

The final look that we feel shows the identity of this runway is this daisy embellished mesh turtleneck worn with a pair of yellow straight cut trousers. This outfit is partnered with a cow printed single breasted trench coat which pulls all of the colours together to make a chic, stylish and very Alexa Chung style outfit.

After showcasing her collection, Alexa herself stepped out onto the runway wearing a gorgeous emerald green blouson dress with a handkerchief sleeve. This dress from her collection is decorated in embroided green and black flowers. Her outfit was worn with a pair of tights and black pointed toe heels.
