We may have had flurries of snow recently here int he North East, but that isn’t stopping high street fashion retailers from show casing their new spring summer 2016 trends in the shop windows.
Dorothy Perkins took on a cleaner collection for Spring Summer 16.
Dresses are given a sporty twist with tie detailed dresses layered over sporty ribs and bombers. Trouser shapes are cropped and flared, whether seen on a navy suit or a simple black trouser. Monochrome gingham features on soft pinny dresses (like this one feature din our look book above) and loose shorts. The trend for off-the-shoulder tops continues to dominate, whether the bardot or high neck sleeveless body, both lending themselves to a sleeker look.
Blue is the colour of the season – for both formal and casual collections. Denim dressing is given an update for the season, kimono jackets are matched with cropped culottes creating a new silhouette. The navy bomber and culotte jumpsuit is paired with a ruffle and bow detail shirt, worn with patent flats to create a preppy look.
Ruffles are a key detail trend for SS16 – creating a romanticism in the collection. Victorian moves into high neck frills and exaggerated ruffles which gives that geek chic feel. Wear bardot tops with wide crops or layer with a midi pinny.
Accessories are textured using faux croc and animal print. Fringing is key on both footwear and cross body bags in dark suedes and leathers. Monochrome block colours are used on leather envelope clutches whilst stripes in neutral colours sit on structured bags.
Summer textures including suede remains a favourite but has found a new softness through a pretty pastel palette. Knitted tanks and crochet dresses stand strong. Dresses and skirts are toughened with lacing, hardware buckles and reptile textures. Utility pocketing is a key detail found on neutral suedes and shirting. One shouldered bodies are back in warm neutral colours and matched with split pencil skirts creating a glossy look. The pastel pink sheer shirt dress adds a romantic femininity to the collection.
New neutrals are key as the season’s palette at Miss Selfridge, with shades of oatmeal and sand, gradually deepening to burnt terracotta and apricot tones.
Putty hued dresses with fluted sleeves and stepped hems are adorned with fairy-tale bird prints. Barely there prairie dresses in dusty lilacs capture earthly elements with a flirty whimsical twist.
Translucent baby doll shapes with sequin embroidery add opulence to the collection. Exposed shoulders peep from gypsy style sundresses while micro jewels are scattered star-like across floor sweeping gowns in sugary shades.
For a chic evening look, midnight black maxi dresses with cherry blossom botanical prints are dressed down with satin bomber jackets stitched with Japanese style thread work. High neck silhouettes in robust crochet and lace fabrics add structure to the collection.
An eclectic 70’s vibe also exudes this season, with silk trimmed bell sleeves flowing from barely there crop tops adorned with vintage lace and lattice embroidery.
Powder pink playsuits are given a modern update with slashed low neck lines. Femininity is captured in pretty ballerina style dresses swathed in layers of delicate tulle.
Muted accessories complement the collection as well as unique shoes to stand out of the crown; clogs in subtle peach and oak tones are discreetly studded and laced in soft leathers and gladiator calf high sandals in neutral suedes are perfect for festival dressing.
Spring summer 16 at Next is all about attention to detail. Texture and shape are imperative, along with sophisticated, graceful styling.
Denim continues to dominate, but classic styles are interspersed with new features such as raw hems, cropped lengths and bleached washes. Pair with rainbow brights in the form of off the shoulder styles, watercolour prints and crochet knits.
Heading to a festival this season? Tassel trims, clashing prints and ethnic embroidery epitomise this story. Raw, earthy tones of khaki, rust and ochre mixed with mono Aztec prints, transport you to the dusty landscape of Coachella Valley.
Evening wear is all about soft muted tones of sage, honey and dusty pink. Ruffles, pleats and silky textures are in abundance on fluid and elegant silhouettes, making them effortlessly wearable.
When it comes to finishing details, it’s all about beaded and pom-pom trimmed bags, flat sandals, tassel jewellery and feather trims.
