Fendi Fall/Winter RTW19 Collection: a tribute to Karl Lagerfeld

Milan Fashion Week saw the final collection of Karl Lagerfeld’s 54-year collaboration with Italian fashion house Fendi. The show ended with a beautiful tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld who joined the fashion house in 1965. A nostalgic video was played showing the fashion genius himself drawing a sketch of what he wore on his first day at Fendi. In the background, in his handwriting, read ‘Love KL’, adding the perfect sentimental touch to the show.

Representing Karl Lagerfeld’s style was an abundance of sharp buttoned-up collars, a staple Lagerfeld piece. Along with a collection of transparent dresses took to the runway, displaying the double-F monogram created by Lagerfeld. This collection brought us streams of brown and beige tones, traditional to Fendi, but did not disappoint with the occasional flash of colour.

The fall/winter collection included an arrangement of carefully cut leathers and fur jackets. A brilliant, bumble-bee yellow leather jacket with a classic collar and laser-cut pocket and breast detailing graced the runway. The look was complemented with a pair of oversized, red-yellow ombre tinted sunglasses to match the oversize fitting of the jacket.

Fendi, famous for its leathers and furs, included a bold black piece in the fall/winter collection. This almost ankle-length, classic collar coat was detailed with the double-F monogram, a detail on almost every piece.

Model, Gigi Hadid, who worked closely with Lagerfeld, closed the show in a stunning, canary yellow knee-length gown on top of a monogrammed body. Her hair was inspired by 1930s style, very sleek with a swirl, and minimal make up showcasing her natural beauty – a common theme throughout the collection.

Another familiar face gracing the runway was Bella Hadid in a transparent, pleated-skirt gown, paired with crisp white boots and a cream fur riding hat an integral accessory to the fall/winter collection.
