London Fashion Week AW15: Julien Macdonald

Julien Macdonald’s AW15 collection was always going to be glamorous, but the king of sparkle released his dark side with a gothic twist.

Black gowns opened the show, while pops of colour such as cranberry and cobalt were gradually added to the dark and sexual, yet sophisticated looks.

Dresses, both long and short, featured embellished silk detailing, sharp angled cut-outs, fishnet lace bonding and plenty of sheer fabrics; which Macdonald knows his clientele love.

One dress that really stood out was a floor sweeping shimmering silver sequin gown, which continued to embrace Julien’s signature panache. Although the model struggled to walk, it was a killer statement garment.

Long black PVC gloves and thick black chokers added the gothic glamour to the collection, while classic pointed mules and stilettos with thick calf-crawling straps walked the floor.

The front row sparkled almost as bright as Macdonald’s signature style, with stars including Michelle Keegan, Rochelle Humes, Tamara Ecclestone, Ella Eyre and Millie Mackintosh taking their seats at the catwalk, held at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The autumn winter 2015 collection contrasts against his bright spring/summer collection, which was revealed last September. The mermaid inspired show featured delicate figure-hugging dresses and not a dark shade was in sight. However, Macdonald’s new collection shows off strong female fashion and in a powerful way.
