North Tyneside teen Harriotte Lane will be representing Tyne and Wear in the final of national modelling competition Junior Miss Galaxy UK.

She tells us: “I’m excited for the Junior Miss Galaxy finals, to see my old friends from Miss Teen and meet new ones. The bond with the girls is one of the best things about pageanting. If I win Junior Miss United Kingdom I then fly off to America in the summer to compete for the global title.”

Harriotte has her mum Sarah to thank for the position she’s in. She added: “I first heard of pageants in general after my mum entered me in Miss Teen Great Britain a year past October. She hadn’t told me about it, and first I knew I got a letter saying I’d made it on the shortlist following my mum’s application. She had entered me in to boost my confidence – I’d had an accident in the June that left me scarred on my leg. After a nasty burn and skin grafts I’d stopped modelling and refused to show my leg. I also had to give up dancing due to the muscle damage.”

She may only be 13, but that hasn’t stopped the aspiring model from being in high demand. In recent modelling gigs Harriotte has donned bridal wear for Mao Couture in the UK Wedding Show Lookbook, appearing as a Darkus Magazine cover model, as well as modelling a range of looks for the North East boutique Chique Unique.

The busy teen is also a keen fundraiser and has taken part in a number of charity events including a charity catwalk for Bradley Lowery and Oliver Osborn. She said: “I never expected to gain as much from doing a pageant. The biggest thing for me is doing the charity work. I already volunteered and did lots of fundraising, but having a title and support really made a difference. I’ve done all sorts from putting on a fashion show to organising a pop concert and presented it. From both Miss Teen Great Britain and Miss Galaxy I’ve managed to raise over £10,000 so far, which for 13, I’m very proud of.”

So what’s next? Well, the determined teen is already thinking beyond next week’s grand final. She said: “I’ve gained presenting skills, including the confidence to speak to a full room, and talk to people from children to business people. It’s also helped my modelling career, I have plans to be the next best thing to Cara D and being Junior Miss Tyne and Wear, and Miss Teen Newcastle, has helped me get noticed – allowing me to build my portfolio and work with some amazing photographers and brands.”

Junior Miss Galaxy and Miss Teen Galaxy England will take place on Saturday, February 7. To vote for Harriotte view her page on the Galaxy Pageants Facebook page.
