Burberry’s AW18 RTW fashion show was the highlight of London Fashion Week.
Bursting with colour and emotions with Christopher Bailey bidding his final farewell after 17 long years as the brands ambassador, Bailey’s final collection was in celebration of all LGBTQ communities and most importantly the youth subculture.
The colours of the rainbow were incorporated into some of Burberrys iconic pieces and his See Now, Buy Now proposal means that any of the garments seen on the catwalk are ready to purchase as soon as the show is over, a very innovative and clever way in which this brand stays so popular within its demographic.
Bailey told Express: “There has never been a more important time to say that in our diversity lays our strength and creativity” an important message to his followers.
The show was held in a grand hall in London for this unforgettable event and loud, dark music created an enigma to what the show was about to unfold.
Last year’s show was very popular with famous celebrity figures in attendance such as fashion models Kate Moss and this years event there was Naomi Campbell. The dazzling spotlights gave us a sneak peek of the front row attendees before the commencement of the catwalk with various high profile figures spectating. No fashion show is complete without a member of the Kardashian-Jenner clang being present and Kendall was seen in front row, also present was fashion icon Zendaya.
A theme sported throughout the show was oversized coats worn with long detailed dresses. The first outfit on the runway was an over detailed graffiti jacket paired with a white skirt which hemmed at the knee and puffed out to the floor incorporating the colours of the rainbow theme running down the seam of the dress.
Burberry designs are always fashionable, chic and comfortable and many tracksuits were spotted on the runway this year. A tracksuit with the iconic Burberry checked stripes with lions appearing across the chest area, were paired with statement gold heels. Both male and female models sported the same pink and grey tracksuit tops that tapered off the shoulder.
The LGBTQ colours were also seen on a variety of accessories and body warmers and the shoes were very casual with most models seen wearing brightly coloured trainers or white sliders.
The makeup was kept very natural and the hair was worn in a tight low pony tail.
The show was ended by LGBTQ ambassador Cara Delevingne strutting down the catwalk wearing a smile on her face supporting a community close to her heart. She wore a long fur cloak with the reprehensive colours, a long white dress with a sheer pattern on the neck of the garment, leaving the catwalk running with her cape flowing behind her. The song ‘Goodbye’ was played, which was a clever connotation of saying farewell to a timeless designer.
The rainbow lights came on for the finale with Cara leading all the models down the runway to the song ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’ by Harold Melvin and Blue Notes.
There was no better way that Bailey could end his career in the fashion industry by raising awareness to the LGBTQ community. His innovated designs will be a huge miss and we wish him all the best for the future.
