London Fashion Week AW15: Sibling

If a punk and a 1920s flapper had a child it would be Sibling’s autumn winter 2015 collection. It smelt of teenage rebellion and none conformity.

As the faux fur mohawks and Edward Scissorhand’s style hair made their way down the runway, the models gave off an air of a woman on a mission, all while wearing the newest designs by the fashion world’s favourite knitwear trio.

The collection is a colour powerhouse, with long-sleeved handkerchief dresses and tank-tops with matching Fair Isle pants, a floor-length scarf and béret opened the show in the colour palette of choice, electric blue, fuchsia, orange and black.

The pink, black and white stripes we saw in the menswear collection in January made a reappearance in a blazer and skirt partnership, with cable knitted socks worn with a strappy heeled sandle, and a floor length jet black scarf with crystal pompom details. This is the ultimate in his & her matching outfits if there ever was one.

The beaded pompom details carried through the show, this time on to a fringed jacket and knee-grazing dress, with fishnet tights and boyish brogues. The flapper is back, and this time she’s bringing knitwear to the dancefloor (or runway).

Block colouring made an appearance in a long sleeved handkerchief dress in Barbie pink, with a glitter laiden polo top under the U-necked bodice. The look was finished in bright orange cable knitted socks and scarf.

For the jumper lovers among us, Sibling has created a simple black round necked jumper with Call Me on the front. No Sibling collection is complete without some semblance of slogan, it’s almost one of the tell tale signs of a Sibling collection.

The closing part saw a textural feast of the rough with the smooth. As shiny PVC dresses worked in harmony with knitted sleeves and high-roll necks with exaggerated fur trims, in vibrant orange and pink with deep red, the punk element arrived, adding a sense of couture chaos to the proceedings.

Sibling has once again triumphed in creating a collection fusing so many textural styles, and making it work. The Sibling woman for autumn winter 2015 is strong and powerful, but with a playful side to her. She is colourful and confident, all while upholding the Sibling ideal, that knitwear will forever be cool, especially with Sid, Joe and Cozette at the helm, or knitting needles and crochet hooks in this case.
