London fashion week: Hunter Original ss16

Staged in a huge tent, complete with a muddy runway, Hunter Original’s spring summer 2016 took festival fashion to a whole new level and even had top fashion guests, such as Anna Wintour, on the front row.

Creative Director Alasdhair Willis (Stella McCartney’s other half) presented a collection with a space-age-meets-Glastonbury theme.

The collection showcased a range of innovative and interesting outerwear all guaranteed to make you stand out in the rainy, muddy fields next season. Metallic bomber jackets plastered with fun iron-on patches, in the shape of smiley faces and peace signs, gave a low-key DIY edge. Waterproof ponchos and macs, in shiny patent with graphic prints and neon pink to orange ombré, showed us how to dress for the British summer but still look stylish.

Dark grey, navy and khaki green jackets in camouflage-style prints were detailed with bold colourful fringing and lace-up sides. Layering was a key part of the looks we saw on the runway. The models legs were bare but they wore long-line coats under cropped, over-sized jackets. Long fringing and trailing cords added another dimension to the outfits – just avoid dipping them into any muddy puddles!

Hunter didn’t disappoint when it came to their famous wellington boot. The classic boot was updated with pastel lilac to orange ombré colouring and navy boots embellished with emoji-style love hearts. The traditional wellie took on a new shape and became sleeker, heeled and made from neoprene for a slimmer, more glamorous fit. These, in bold primary colours, complemented the playful vibe of the rest of the collection.

The over-sized silhouette continued in the menswear, giving a boy-scout-ish appearance, with camo print coats and sleeveless jackets layered over weather-resistant cagoules – perfect for any man wanting to channel their inner boy scout in the festival fields.

Make-up and hair was kept easy and simple, as you’d expect for an outdoor brand. Faces were bright and fresh, with well groomed brows and a pop of dewy colour on the cheeks. If the hair wasn’t covered with a hood it was worn down with that just-brushed look – giving that just-rolled-out-my-tent feel.

A ticker tape, confetti-filled finalé ended a seamless show, which brought us staple items for next summer’s festival season.
