Love Niche owner, Nisha Vedhara, talks about her fashion success in the North East

Situated in Clayton Street, Newcastle, stands Love Niche Studio; a bespoke styling service and clothing store for women in the North East.

The brainchild behind the idea is none other than Nisha Vedhara, a 34-year-old stylist, fashion designer and entrepreneur. Originally from Delhi in India, Nisha moved to the North East in 2005 when she met her husband Arjun, 36, and has since made her fashion career soar from strength to strength.

After graduating at the London College of Fashion in 2011, her studio opened a year later which has been “an interesting journey so far. I grew up with fashion and when I moved to the North East I was surrounded by it.”

Nisha’s obsession with this industry came at a young age when her mum introduced her to fashion as a designer herself, creating garments for women in India and holding her own fashion shows. But her dad’s entrepreneurial skills have also rubbed off on the stylist: “my father was always travelling and my mum was a designer… It’s a blend of both that has helped me to bring my business to where it is today.”

With collections that have been designed by Nisha or bought in for her studio and with a CV of attending to more than 500 clients including Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima, it is no surprise that she has confidence within herself when we speak over the phone. A quick swipe of her Instagram, @lovenichestyle, showcases her polished, on-trend outfits which serve as a great reflection of the styling service she offers to her customers.

Although her lifestyle may seem a little too glamorous for the North East, she insists Love Niche is “between high-street and high-end. Of course, I’ve styled Adriana but she isn’t our main client. [I style] normal people who think styling is only for celebrities and afforded by those with a highly disposable income. That’s what I’m trying to break through.”

Nisha’s first ever, ongoing, collection ‘Niche by Nisha Vedhara’ typically goes back to her Indian roots: “I designed this collection and use a lot of sequins, embellishments, embroidery and a variation of fabrics… There’s a consistency of those elements.”

Her more modern collection ‘Love Niche London’ is bought in and appeals to the younger woman in mind: “It’s a collection that reflects the young, British, high-street [woman]. I have a very good set of clients who constantly buy this collection, it’s targeted at young girls because it’s trend-orientated!”

Amongst Nisha’s fans of this collection and the studio generally is 14-year-old, Harriotte Lane, who now models for the brand and won the title of Miss Junior Teen Great Britain earlier in October, she said: “I discovered Love Niche last year, a hidden gem of a shop in Newcastle. The place is like an Aladdin’s cave for fashion.

“Nisha takes styling to a totally different level, the way she mixes things up and accessories [items] is amazing. She styled me for an event recently and I have never had so many compliments on what I was wearing. My wardrobe is probably 50% Love Niche and I love that I can go in the shop and buy an outfit for £50 or buy bespoke eveningwear to feel extravagant.”

It’s clear Nisha is proud of her achievements, and absolutely loves to style clients of all ages and backgrounds, always reassuring her customers that there is something out there for everyone: “It doesn’t matter how old you are, there’s always something that can knock down your confidence… But Love Niche is here to make you feel better and all of my client’s stories are different, they’re quite personal but at the end of the day, if a client walks through the [studio] doors and feels good then I’m happy.

“This year, I’ve made a dress for someone’s 80th birthday, someone’s 18th birthday, a prom. There’s no age demographic… I have such a good relationship with my clients. It’s a little family!”

With constantly growing relationships and a true niche in the North East market, I can only imagine how far Nisha will go in the next few years.
