The Victorian era has had a makeover thanks to Fendi’s SS16 collection and the best part is that it’ll suit just about anyone.
High buttoned necklines, frilly blouses and more elaborately puffed shoulders than you can imagine, creative director Karl Lagerfeld’s idea of our new-season wardrobe is a rather affluent one but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t given these clothes a little lease of contemporary life.
The SS16 collection showcased cinched waists on daring playsuits in waxy reds and baby pinks as well as detailed, structured miniskirts with an intricate, feminine pattern. We also saw models step onto the runway in boxy snakeskin jackets accessorised with a matching clutch bag, whilst hairstyles were given a tame ‘60s feel with clipped side-fringes and makeup was minimal expect for a bold, black flick of eyeliner just below the models’ brows.
But the catwalk suddenly brought a military vibe; burgundy handbags with chunky, gold chains, knee-length coats with big pockets and both silk and leather bodysuits in khaki green… Yet Fendi still insisted that the Victorian theme continued to shine through with oversized crepe blouses teamed with slouchy, leather trousers and strappy heels with dainty applique flowers.
It seems the Fendi SS16 woman isn’t afraid to mix and match particular decades of fashion as she counteracts both masculine and feminine designs and cuts which creates an effortless, surprisingly modern style and we can’t wait for it to hit our shores come next season.
