If you have a Twitter account then you wouldn’t have missed the pictures of Kendall Jenner modelling for Vera Wang’s AW16 collection at NYFW. With her Mother, Kris Jenner, posting that she was a ‘proudmama’ and the stunning picture of Vera Wang with Kendall Jenner and sister Kylie. Kylie’s new bright pink hair made her easy to spot on the front row during the show. Kendall wore a monochrome outfit with a white collared shirt and floor length skirt.
Aside from the Kardashian takeover what else caught our eye? Wang is known for her bridal wear but she came away from that to give us an edgy, military-looking collection. She kept the catwalk looking modern with all of the models in very high black platform boots.
The colours were very typical of a AW collection with lots of greens, greys and blacks. She displayed a variety of textures; including fur, sequin, silk and chiffon. The soft music and setting complimented the soft makeup of the models with hair by Paul Hanton in a straight, simple and often tucked in to high-neck blazers.
Wang experimented with fastenings such as zips and belts. There was a sleeveless jacket with a zip down the front and the use of belts was a key part of the show; having multiple buckles around models waist and also on shoes and braces.
She played with the female figure with oversized blazers and coats hiding the parts of a female figure normally accentuated and concentrated more on the midriff and back using cut outs. The high slits in the dresses and the short shorts complimented the block heels to lengthen the legs.
Her history with lingerie was clear with the sheer dresses which showed block bras underneath and some of them even resembled night dresses.
I think the show was overall a success and I cannot wait to get my hands on a pair of shorts with lace lining. However, I found some of the items very similar with only the odd belt or zip that made the outfit any different than what the model before was wearing.
