Our news editors share their festive must-haves

Last but not least and just before Christmas, Fashion North’s news editors Laura and Beth have chosen three items they’ve put on the top of their wish lists this year. Still stuck and in need of some last-minute inspiration for presents? Have a gander at their fashion and beauty must-haves for the new year.

 Laura Robson’s festive letter:

Dear Santa,

I’d like to think I’ve been a pretty decent human being this past year, so if it’s not too much to ask, here’s what I’d really like this Christmas:

This Mulberry Blossom Pochette bag has been taunting me for far too long. Mulberry released a new Blossom collection at the beginning of November, and while of course the campaign is as gorgeous as it always is, the prices are nowhere near as eye-watering. Starting at £80 for a phone cover to £495 for a large tote, the collection shakes off those harsh winter blues with an array of spectacular jungle greens, mandarin, sea blues and hibiscus. Be it a purse, clutch or make-up bag, the small Pochette, at £250, is a multi-tasker – a bit like myself, and that’s why I love it.

Next on my list is the Alexa Chung hearts limited edition gift set by Nails Inc. The collaboration includes six glossy and special effects shades, all for £45. I may have about 10 boxes of nail polish bottles in just about every corner of my house, but what harm will another six do? And finally, if it’s not nail polish I’m lusting after, it’ll probably be a ring. This handmade turquoise stone ring from Not On the High Street is the one I’m longing for at the moment. At £45, the brass vine detailing and intricate flower and leaf design is a bargain if you ask me!

Beth Gallimore’s wish list:

From the moment I first saw these Topshop velvet slippers (£28) I just couldn’t resist them. They’re the perfect alternative to a heeled shoe this party season and so comfy, not to mention the pom-poms are irresistibly cute. I just can’t decide if I prefer them in black, red or grey – is it greedy to ask Santa for all three?

Another thing on my list is the new GHD Curve classic curling tong (£110). I’ve been after some perfect curlers for a long time (to replace the Mary-Kate and Ashley ones I’ve had since I was about seven) and I’ve heard great things about these. I love the rose gold travel case too.

When the MAC Heirloom Mix collection was released for Christmas, I lusted over almost every item, but finally settled on this lipstick, in Tribalist (£17), as my favourite. The subtle glittery twist on the classic MAC packaging adds a nice Christmas edge and the deep purple/red colour is perfect for festive parties.
