After his slightly controversial approach to menswear, the setting for Rick Owens latest show was a brightly lit minimalist room, which set the tone for his new collection.
Renowned for his typically glamour meets grunge approach to fashion across his lengthy fashion career, it is safe to say that this collection was no different. With each petite model styled to minimalistic perfection, there was a nod to modern punk with smudged eye liner and scraped back hair.
Simplistic grungy outfits dominated the show with edgy cuts in what seemed to be a nod to the art deco theme.
Long ruffled skirts tucked into pitman style boots in an attempt to show an alternative side to beauty opened the show.
Owens made a more reserved statement as opposed to his recent menswear collection with his smoky tones adding a dark twist. There was confidence in his panelled ensembles with frayed hems and high rolled necklines. A hint of glamour could be seen through an intricate sequin design across the panelled top, but ultimately the grunge shone through on the punk styled model.
Later on in the collection, there was a twist to the otherwise dark punk like theme. Tassels galore adorned an all brown ensemble, which wrapped and tucked around the model, but ultimately the look failed to flatter.
An all charcoal toned ensemble adorned with contrasting sequins looked particularly unflattering on the model, while the heavy make-up and gold spiked shoes added an extra dark twist to an already rock-esque look.
Simplicity appeared to play a running theme throughout the majority of the collection, which influenced every look in a different way. An understated black ensemble was made strangely glamorous through faux leather panelling and a unique shoulder padding – a clear incorporation of his glamour meets grunge inspiration.
The hand sewn sequins, which dominated the end of the collection, looked almost stunning as they stood out against the charcoal and neutral tones of the ensembles, with the intricate designs almost being the statement of glamour and the untold beauty of simplicity.
