When you think Yohji Yamamoto you instantly think of clean designs in black or white and nothing more. And for this AW16 collection that is exactly what we got.
While being part of what is women’s fashion week we were given a very androgynous variety of outfits which could be part of the one word answer Yamamoto gave after the show: “Subtraction”.
Other than the obvious lack of colour in this collection, bar the red threads that occasionally appear, gender is the only thing that seems to have been taken away from this years show.
A lot of the brand’s garments are oversized and provide very little accurate shaping for the wearer. And this one is exactly the same with the odd exception of a tailored pair of trousers. Again which could be worn by either sex and it seem like they were made for said gender.
Each item look effortlessly crafted but you could tell that each one was meticulously designed making sure each bit draped perfectly.
Adding a slight variation to the black and white an addition of grey in the form of gradiented leather to woollen dress that added new textures to the show.
