Change was clearly on the cards at Elie Saab’s Pre-Fall show as the brand took a step back from its usual polished elegance and replaced it with darker hues, boho vibes and a touch of attitude.

Floppy fedoras with pom-pom fur coats: the collection presented a new wave of youth from Saab, suggesting the brand’s looking to target a younger audience.

The models marched to the mystical tunes of Danish singer-songwriter, MØ, decked out in true Morticia Addams style lace. Floor length gowns with thigh-high slits paired with fringed leather jackets and wellington boots made up the unforeseen transition for Saab.

As always Saabs work was exquisitely styled as peplum laced shirts as dark as the night, with laser-cut slips from neck to navel, were mated with witchy leather belts accenting the waist.

Burgundy velvet platforms handsomely complemented the fringe of octopus-like clothed tentacles on the dresses’ lower hems as they danced in time to the audacious electro track.

Colour was not entirely absent as hues of coral, green and pastel blue came into play with the more relaxed items of the collection, channelling vibes of a young Edwardian girl at a modern day festival.

The contrast between the beautiful beaded lace and the tough leather jackets truly stood out on the runway. The abstract styling of the collection begs the question: is this the new Saab? Or will his signature ethereal style return for Haute Couture next spring? We can’t wait to see what’s next on the cards for Elie Saab World.
