Just last week Rihanna was made a national hero of Barbados as the island becomes a republic after cutting ties with the royal family and removing Queen Elizabeth ll as head of state.
In a ceremony on Tuesday, Prime Minister Mia Mottley honoured Rihanna, also known by her full name Robyn Rihanna Fenty had previously been named ambassador to Barbados in 2018. The singer turned beauty mogul and fashion designer wore a Bottega Veneta orange satin gown to the event.
To celebrate Rihanna’s national hero status, Fashion North has taken a look back at some of her most iconic looks throughout the years.
Rihanna is known for her show-stopping looks from the annual Met Gala over the years; she has graced the carpet in spectacular designs that have always embodied the theme. In 2015, she attended the event wearing a yellow gown by Chinese designer Guo Pei for the “China through the looking glass” theme.
She once again showed her dedication to the Met Gala theme when in 2018 for “Heavily Bodies” she attended wearing a bejeweled gown with a matching overcoat by John Galliano for Maison Margiela.
Not only is Rihanna a Grammy award-winning music artist, but she is also at the helm of a fashion and lingerie brand Savage X Fenty. When attending the 2019 British Fashion Awards, she wore a teal green satin mini dress with a matching tulle overcoat by Fenty.
Rihanna is known for her over the top dressing and, that’s why when attending red carpets, she opts for maximalism styles, while attending the 2017 Thousand Planets movie premiere in Los Angeles, she opted for a Giambattista Valli pink gown (see above) with an off the shoulder neckline and puff sleeves and a beautiful train.
Another iconic pink look from Rihanna is from the 2015 Grammy awards, where she went on to win the best rap collaboration for her song Monster with Eminem. She wore a Giambattista Valli gown with extreme ruffles and silver detailing.
