Chinese New Year is all about red, yellow and gold. In Chinese culture, red symbolises good fortune and joy. Yellow and gold are considered to be the centre of everything. They also symbolise neutrality and good luck and also represents freedom from worldly cares, which relates to the widespread practice of Buddhism in China.

This year is the Year of the Monkey, so you can get involved in celebrating by wearing red or by wearing monkey prints!

Why not go for a kimono like the one above from River Island. It’s a stylish kimono dress – that can also double up as a layering piece if you wanted to wear something over it. It’s certainly a style bargain with a 2-for-1 look. You can also for a short kimono like this one from ASOS or if you want to be daring, go for a crop top kimono like this one also from ASOS.

If you want to play it safe, then why not go for a simple red skirt – a midi or mini will suffice, I’m sure – just make sure it’s red!

You may want to keep it simple so why not wear some Monkey socks? They may be hidden, but that may just be “your thing” and that’s okay. Plus, who doesn’t like to coo over cute monkey socks? I know I do!

Jewellery may be what you are looking for though and there’s some simple pieces out there for those on a budget and those with a little more cash to splash. You may fancy your hand at a monkey watch like the one above or prefer to have a dangle at a monkey necklace, like this one from Miss Selfridge.

If you do want to have some bling on your bag, then why not get yourself a keyring of a monkey like the one above from Gucci.

Whatever you decide to wear this Chinese New Year, don’t monkey around and be sure you look good!
